Welcome, new LARP players! If you’re interested in trying out LARPing for the first time, this guide is here to help. We’ll provide an overview of what LARPing is and how to get started, so that you can begin playing in no time. Whether you’re a complete beginner or just need a refresher on the basics, this guide is sure to help you get ready for your first LARPing experience.

What is a LARP?

New to LARPing? Learn all about it!

LARP, or Live Action Role-Playing, is an interactive hobby where participants assume the roles of fictional characters, complete tasks and engage in improvisational storytelling. It’s a lot like a game of make-believe for adults! LARPers create their character, build a costume, and play out storylines within a universe created by the game’s organisers. As a new player, you’ll get to choose your own story and roleplay it out.

What is LAIRE?

The Longest Running Tri State Area LARP

LAIRE, or Live Action Interactive Roleplaying Explorers, is a live action role playing (LARP) game. We are also a non-profit volunteer organization. Established by a group of like-minded people who enjoy theatrics and fair play, LAIRE has been running events for over 20 years. Our organization is presided over by an Executive Board whose members chair several committees that keep the game running smoothly and ensure a fun and safe environment for its members

What to expect

Coming to a new game for the first time can be very intimidating, so feel free to contact us ahead of time. Our PR staff would love to answer any of your questions before you come to your first event. Our logistics staff would like to hear from you as well, so they can provide you a sleeping assignment.
