Keeping to their word, the host made their way into the provinces of the Dale to the halfling home New Gleneden. They were greeted with merriments, food, and warning. In preparation, the halflings trapped the Hunters Forest and the surrounding areas with all kinds of trip wires, bells, and explosives. It was a solid attempt to keep the Scaven, or “Weaslefolk” as the halflings called them, at bay from the supplies and their main building, Halfling Hall. They warned Avalon to watch their steps and keep to the main paths, less they get hurt by the traps.
As Avalon settled into the pop-up Jamberry Tavern, rumors and information started flooding in. The ground would start rumbling beneath their feet due to gem wurms tunneling underneath for the scaven. This was allowing them to create a tunnel system that would eventually cave in and destroy the halfling home. To prevent this, parties were made to go into various tunnels to stop the scaven and try to find these wurms.
Amongst the danger, other things were happening. Lady Thistle of Medici had a surprise visit from her brother, the owner of the pop-up tavern, Master Mythies and Cilly having a wonderful time being home and getting to tell their stories of adventures. Cilly was in his heyday making a giant cage to trap the scaven when he and others went on a scouting mission. He was very proud as he carried it around on his head. Imagine a halfling man carrying a cage around on his head and smiling about it the whole time. Halflings are a curious bunch.
Sergeant Patrilly, a halfling hero not from New Gleneden, was also having her own crazy time. Being the ambassador to the Fae, she was giving info by way of a dwarf that her parents are alive! She hadn’t seen or heard from them in over a decade so she quickly took to action and gathered a team and went into the tunnels. They ended up in the Underdark, home of the dark elves where they found her parents. Apparently they had been held there for the better part of a decade. Needless to say that the family reunion was a joyous one.
Saturday night was somewhat uneventful with a skirmish here and there with scaven parties still trying to steal the halflings supplies. It wasn’t until Sunday when things started to get messy. A massive quake rumbled underground near Halfling Hall which could have only been made by one of those giant gem wurms. Led by Squires Illium and Wolfclaw, the host marched towards the disturbance. The area was being overrun by the scaven and Avalon took quick action to fight and defend the area. They secured four structures and fought off the enemy and just when everything got quiet the gem wurm best out of the earth and slammed to the ground. With a tough skin and spitting very potent acid very few could damage the gargantuan beast. Those who had magic weapons made sure to keep the focus of the wurm while others, mostly younger heroes, dealt with the scaven.
After some time the wurm finally fell and the scavn scattered! The halflings cheered and thanked the Heroes of Avalon for the valiant efforts.
Now the heroes must get ready for the most anticipated event of the year–YULE!
